There’s something about eating a fresh-from-the-plant strawberry that takes me right back to the days of strawberry picking in my grandma’s garden.

If you find yourself a little underwhelmed by the mild flavor of store-bought strawberries, local farms are the way to go.

Fortunately there are plenty of options for farms that offer opportunities for picking strawberries in Georgia. And with the strawberry picking season upon us, it’s a good time to find places to pick fresh strawberries locally.

The warm climate makes fruit picking in Georgia something that can be enjoyed for many months of the year. But the best time for strawberry picking in GA typically lasts from late April to mid-June. 

You don’t have to have kids to enjoy a day of picking strawberries. But if you do, it’s a family-friendly day of fun they’ll likely never forget!

You’ll find a smorgasbord of strawberry farms in Georgia, many of which offer other fun activities such as face painting, tractor tours, hayrides, and more.

1. Berry Good Farms

This family-friendly South Georgia farm makes is a fantastic option for supporting local farmers who are devoted to using organic and sustainable practices.

Tifton’s Berry Good Farms is committed to producing “the cleanest chemical-free fruit that is available,” with absolutely no synthetic fungicides or pesticides used on the strawberries.

They recommend bringing a hat and a packed lunch for a fun day of strawberry picking in the fresh country air.

In addition to strawberries, they also offer U-pick asparagus and blueberries. Satsumas (a sweet mandarin orange), peaches, and pecans also make appearances throughout the year.

2. Dickey Farms

Located 27 miles west of Macon, Dickey Farm in Musella is another great place for strawberry picking in GA.

Though they’re best-known for their Georgia peaches, this family-owned farm also offers a pick-your-own strawberry experience as well as many other family-friendly activities. 

Daily guided tours of the farm allow to you learn about the history of Georgia peaches, as well as the importance of eating locally-grown fruit.

A brand new playground will keep the kids happy while you sample some of the farm’s fresh fare, from homemade strawberry fritters to fried pies and ice cream under the pavilion. 

Mark April 15th, 2023 on your calendar if you want to attend their Strawberry Festival.

There you can sample fresh produce, shop from local vendors, sample various food trucks, and relax with some live music. There will be also fun games and bouncy houses for the kids.

3. Jaemor Farms

Located just 2.9 miles from the quirky Schoolbus Graveyard attraction, Jaemor Farms is a popular Georgia strawberry farm that has been tended to by six generations of the Echols family.

After starting with apples and peaches, the farm now offers its customers strawberries, blackberries, muscadines, scuppernongs, Concord grapes, watermelon, squash, tomatoes, zucchini, and pumpkins. 

When it comes to places to pick fruit in GA, this is one pick-your-own-strawberry farm you won’t want to miss. 

The farm has 13 acres dedicated to growing 150,000 strawberry plants, making it one of their top-selling products once strawberry picking season starts in April. 

Head back to the farm in summer for their U-pick flowers. In the fall you can join their Harvest Celebration, which includes apple picking, hayrides, and an epic corn maze!

4. Mercier Orchards

Located in Blue Ridge GA, Mercier Orchards is a great option for fruit picking in Georgia, offering pick-your-own strawberry, blackberry, and blueberry experiences.  

Mercier Orchards is also one of the best places for apple picking in Georgia, so it’s a popular place to visit during the Fall. 

This 300-acre orchard is nestled in (and surrounded by) the Blue Ridge Mountains. So it’s a picturesque place to spend an afternoon with your family, knee-deep in sun-ripened berries that are ready for picking.

A tractor tour will take you through the orchard, giving you a chance to hear the history of this family business (established in 1943) and learn about how fruit is grown.

On the weekends, when the workers are having a rest, you’re welcome to wander through the orchard for a self-guided tour. 

Once you’ve finished the tour and done all the berry picking you can muster, head back to the Mercier Orchards café for a tasty breakfast or lunch. You can also grab delicious treats from their bakery.

If you’re still looking to hang out a little longer, head to the market and browse the collection of condiments, dressings, jams and jellies, gift baskets, toys, and souvenirs for sale.

5. Mitcham Farm

Atlanta farms for strawberry picking can be difficult to find. But Mitcham Farm in Oxford GA is a great option that’s just 30 minutes east of the city.

Located less than 2 miles north of Covington GA, Mitcham Farm was started by the current owner’s great-grandfather in 1848, 13 years before the start of the Civil War

In 2004, the Mitcham family opened Colonel Cob’s Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch to expand their business into agritourism.

They started growing strawberries in Georgia in 2006. In addition to strawberry picking, a springtime visit allows you to enjoy the farm store, play on the playground, or even try your hand at gem mining in their sluice.

If you want to celebrate the strawberry season at its fullest, visit during their Strawberry Festival on April 29.

There you can partake in some strawberry picking, enjoy live entertainment, sample delicious food, shop from local craft vendors, and let the kids run free in the play area.

6. Ottawa Farms

Located about 13 miles west of Savannah GA, this 350-acre farm has been serving its Chatham County since 1870.

They open to the public seasonally, offering visitors chances to pick fruit, shop at the General Store, or play on the playground.

This year Ottawa Farms is hosting its annual Strawberry Festival on April 15-16.

There you can partake in some strawberry picking, eat from a number of food trucks, send the kids off on a hay ride, and enjoy some live music

The farm has an array of fresh produce on sale all season long, from strawberries and blackberries in the spring to corn, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and squash in the summer. 

For a fun activity during Fall in Georgia, you’re invited to bring a picnic, visit the pumpkin patch, take a hayride, and stock up on all of your favorite seasonal decor, including gourds and rainbow corn.

7. The Shed at Fitzgerald Fruit Farms

There are a plethora of different options for U-pick in Georgia, but The Shed at Fitzgerald Fruit Farms makes a great day trip from towns such as LaGrange and Columbus GA. 

You can head over to Woodbury early on a sunny spring or early summer day in hunt of fresh strawberries to pick.

After a hard day’s work of strawberry picking, you can bring a picnic, relax in a rocking chair on the porch, and/or enjoy some homemade ice cream. 

If you’re in the area when the fall colors begin to turn, stop by their pumpkin patch for cute pics with the kids. And don’t leave without taking a hayride or trying their spiced cider and caramel apples.

Though they only started growing strawberries in 2015, the central GA farm expanded again in 2019 to include a new farm market and winery in nearby Imlac.

There you can experience a lovely day of wine tasting and sample some fresh produce.

8. Southern Belle Farm

HOURS: Mon to Fri 9AM-5PM; Sat 10AM-6PM; Sun 1PM-6PM 

Located about 30 miles south of Atlanta in McDonough GA, this you-pick strawberry farm encourages visitors to come for the day and play.

The family-owned, 330-acre farm offers fruit picking, various forms of fall fun, and even grows Christmas trees!

They have 12 acres from which you can pick strawberries before heading back to the main farm for more activities.

During the spring season, you can have a go on the pedal karts or run the trike track. There’s also a huge tube slide, a corn combine, a trampoline, and a cow train that takes kids around the farm.

If that isn’t enough, kids can have a go at panning for treasure in the gem mine for an additional fee. In the fall, you can also get lost in a 4-acre corn maze, or pick out a perfect pumpkin for carving.

9. Southern Grace Farms

For strawberry picking in South Georgia, head down to Southern Grace Farms, which is located in the small town of Enigma GA (11 miles east of Tifton).

This 8th-generation farm has been around since the 1700s, and grew its first fields of U-Pick strawberries and blackberries back in 1998.

In addition to being a you-pick strawberry farm, they also offer a chance to kick back on the porch while sipping iced tea or devouring homemade ice cream.

Kids can run wild in the enormous (and rather unique) playground, which was made from reused and recycled objects found on the farm. They’ll want to spend hours exploring the pirate ship, rolling pipe slide, and Ninja line.

Once they’re done, they can come and join the family on the porch for a game of giant Jenga or checkers. 

Before you head home, check out the farm shop and peruse their folksy arts and crafts, sweet treats, and souvenirs.

10. Warbington Farms

From farm parties to field trips, there is so much more to do at Warbington Farms than just strawberry picking.

Kids will enjoy their huge slide, trampoline, and a bubble-blowing station, while their U-pick flowers will keep everyone occupied in the spring. This GA strawberry-picking farm is one not to miss.

The farm also offers Easter egg hunts in April, and fun activities for the kids during spring break.

In addition to 3 acres of strawberries, the farm also has a market in the former egg-packing building. There you can buy local produce, jams, jellies and salsa, farm gear, and gifts.

If you’re into antiques, check out their little curio shop for some cool vintage finds.
