North Georgia Mountains

North Georgia is home to the Southern terminus of both the Blue Ridge Mountains (Mount Oglethorpe in Jasper GA) and the Appalachian Trail (Springer Mountain, near Dahlonega GA).

The Blue Ridge Mountains stretch across the northern region of the state, where Georgia shares boundaries with North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

This region includes 10 of the tallest mountains in the state, including Brasstown Bald (the highest at 4,784 ft) and popular hiking spots such as Rabun Bald (4,696 ft), Blood Mountain (4,458 ft), and Tray Mountain (4,430 ft).

The North Georgia Mountains are home to the biggest tourism draws outside metro Atlanta, including beloved towns such as Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, Ellijay, Helen, and Lookout Mountain GA.

These towns are largely surrounded by the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, which offers over 100,000 acres of outdoor recreation and countless waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and wildlife.

There are 300+ miles of fantastic hiking trails to explore, including quick treks to Minnehaha Falls, Helton Creek Falls, and Anna Ruby Falls, and longer treks on the Appalachian Trail, Bartram Trail, and Benton MacKaye Trail.

North Georgia also offers 100 miles of trout streams for anglers, not to mention dozens of lakes for boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and more. Lake Allatoona alone gets around 7 million visitors a year!
