The 10 Best Mountain Resorts in GA to Visit

Growing up in Atlanta, my family never had enough money to visit the many mountain resorts in North Georgia.

So instead we tended to stay in campgrounds, and particularly those in the North Georgia State Parks.

But by the time I reached my early 20s, staying at resorts in the Georgia mountains became a more affordable alternative to international travel.

In the decades since we became full-time travel writers, visiting North Georgia resorts has become one of our favorite options for weekend getaways

From our very first visit to Barnsley Garden (now known as Barnsley Resort) in Adairsville to our more recent Christmas visit to Forest Hills Resort in Dahlonega, each of these resorts in GA has provided amazing memories.

Read on for our in-depth guide to the 10 best mountain resorts in GA to visit, including North Georgia mountain resorts,  resorts on Georgia lakes, and GA resorts where you can stay in charming cabin rentals

We encourage anyone who loves the Blue Ridge region to learn about the Leave No Trace principles of responsible environmental stewardship.

Stay on marked trails, take only pictures, pack out your trash, and be considerate of others who share the trails and parks you explore.

Remember that waterfalls and rocky summits can be dangerous. Never try to climb waterfalls or get close to a ledge to get a selfie.

When you're exploring the wilderness, it's better to be safe than to be a statistic!

Born in Augusta GA, Samantha Dickens came of age on a 7-acre farm in Waynesboro GA, where she was surrounded by dairy cows, chickens, and the occasional goat. She's always dreamed of being a writer, filling multiple notebooks with short stories as a child. After hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail in North Georgia with her grandparents, she also found a love of exploring the outdoors. She went on to major in Communications at Arizona State University while working as an intern for Blue Ridge Mountains Travel Guide. Since graduating, she's balanced her burgeoning career with her duties as a writer and PR assistant for BRMTG.
