You’ll find an abundance of great options all along the Virginia wine trails, from wineries in large mountain towns like Charlottesville and Roanoke to small towns in the Shenandoah Valley and Southwest Virginia

There are an array of Virginia vineyards that take pride in their award-winning wines and offer beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to soak in as you sip.

Celebrating their 40th year in 2022, Jefferson Vineyards is an award-winning winery that should be on every oenophile’s bucket list.

Owned for 3 generations by the Woodward family, the Charlottesville winery is open for wine tastings. But if you can’t visit in person, you can also tour the winery virtually and order wine to be delivered instead.

The handcrafted Jefferson Vineyards wines include a wide variety of reds and whites, featuring the flagship wine of Virginia, Viognier.

If you’re looking for wineries with lodging in Virginia, check out their rental home, Colle, which was built in 1939 is located directly across the road from the vineyard.

Their delectable wines (which can be enjoyed on the farm or shipped directly to your home) include a rotating selection each month for Eastwood Wine Club members.

This Charlottesville VA winery offers perfect food pairings with their wine at three different locations on site: the Barn and Veranda, the Terrace Bar, or from their food truck.

Afton Mountain Vineyards welcomes visitors, and even some furry friends, to savor the fruits of their labors in multiple tasting locations, including a glass pavilion, sprawling lawn, and scenic patio.

These award-winning wines are produced by a dedicated team whose passion is creating something unique, eco-friendly, and sustainable for wine-lovers to appreciate.

One of the few wineries in Virginia with lodging, Afton Mountain Vineyard offers guests a chance to stay on the property in one of their guest cottages or homes.

Check out rates for their Ana Cottage, Billon Cottage, Cadus Cottage, or Damy Cottage on VRBO. All of the cottages are pet friendly and feature a deck overlooking the vineyards, woods, and colorful Virginia wildflowers.

4. Crosskey Vineyards

Owned and operated by the Bakhtiar family, Crosskey Vineyards in Mt. Crawford VA has been producing wines since 2001 and welcoming wine-lovers since 2008.

They grow 12 kinds of grapes on their picturesque 125-acre estate, from which they produce more than 20 different types of wine.

They offer Virginia wine tastings throughout the day. On select days guests can also reserve a spot on guided winery tours, where they can learn a bit more about the winemaking process as well as some history of the vineyard.

Foodies will enjoy a visit to their Bistro for lunch, dinner, or Sunday brunch, where upscale dishes can be paired with their delicious VA wines.

5. Brix and Columns Vineyard

This 160-acre Virginia farm has been in operation as a vineyard since 2016, using pastoral land owners Steve and Stephanie Pence purchased back in 2003.

Crafted by award-winning wine maker Michael Shaps, Brix and Columns Vineyard’s wines are available both in the on-site tasting room and online.

Virtual vineyard tours are also offered online, but the wine tastings offered on the vineyard offer spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

If you’re looking for a space for private events in the Virginia wine country, look into renting their elegant Columns at Six Penny home, which features historic architecture and scenic views of the vineyard.

6. Muse Vineyards

Muse Vineyards, an estate vineyard that sits on 40 acres in Woodstock VA, is inarguably one of the best wineries in Shenandoah Valley.

Their award-winning wines have earned plenty of accolades to back up this title, including the prestigious Virginia Governor’s Cup.

Visitors can sample what Muse Vineyards has to offer at their dog-friendly Tasting Room. You can also pair it with mouth-watering food from their restaurant while taking in stellar views of the mountains and surrounding forest.

If you’re looking for a place to stay, reserve a spot at the Muse Vineyards Farmhouse. Built in 1792, the historic house is located right on the grounds of the vineyard, offering charm and luster to spare.

7. Ducard Vineyards

Opened to the public in 2010, the winery strives to provide great customer service while also implementing practices to remain sustainable and give back to the land.

Guests are invited to tour the vineyard while they’re there for tastings or private events in order to see just what goes into making the bottles of fantastic wine they’re savoring.

In autumn 2022, Ducard Vineyards will be hosting a wine cruise to see the glorious fall colors in various Maine and Canadian Harbors. They will also be hosting other fun special events at the vineyard.

8. Glen Manor Vineyards

Glen Manor Vineyards welcomes visitors to its 17-acre estate for wine tastings (with both indoor and outdoor seating) or simply purchasing your favorite bottles.

Established in 1995 by Jeff Raymond White, the vineyard is located 6 miles south of the entrance to Shenandoah National Park, one of the most popular national parks in the eastern US.  

This Virginia winery sits on property that is officially recognized by the state as a “Century Farm.” Prior to White’s purchase of the property, it had been owned and worked by 5 generations of the same family.

Glen Manor takes pride in its farming practices, and will gladly explain how each element of the wine-making process— soil, elevation, climate, etc— affects the flavor of their wines.

Sitting on 91 acres, the vineyards include 9 acres of grape vines as well as a Tasting Room where guests can enjoy a variety of delightful Virginia wines.

Virginia Mountain Vineyards prides themselves on being a family-friendly place, offering all-ages activities such as cornhole, ping-pong, and foosball. This is also one of the most dog-friendly wineries in Virginia

If you want to tackle a hike before your wine tasting, the property is just 25.2 miles from the famous MacAfee Knob hike on the Appalachian Trail in VA.

The Chateau Morrisette Winery is located in the heart of Virginia wine country off the Blue Ridge Parkwaywith a space for guests to relax while enjoying the spectacular mountain views.

The Virginia vineyard welcomes family and friends to gather, sip on award-winning wines or hard apple ciders, and pair it with some mouthwatering food from The Hut.

Chateau Morrisette Winery tours are offered daily, and they host weekly special events (such as live music for Saturday & Sunday Sounds).
