For an authentic experience, you can cut your own Christmas tree in NC.

When visiting the farm, you get to pick out the tree you want, and they will bale it and tie it to your vehicle, or you can use the provided bow saws and cut your own!

Unlike smaller choose-and-cut NC Christmas Tree farms, Frosty Mountain typically offers tens of thousands of trees during the 6-week period before Christmas in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Once you find your perfect symbol of Christmas, you can watch while they harvest it and trim it to just the right shape. They will then place the tree in netting to protect it and load it onto your car.

Along with the trees, Frosty Mountain also offers fresh wreaths and garlands for purchase.

Note that visitors may have to walk up to a half-mile on hilly ground to find the perfect tree. So make sure you’re wearing sturdy footwear!

Sandy Hollar Farms has been family-owned and operated since 1969, when they started selling Christmas trees in their front yard.

Today they have thousands of trees and make hundreds of fresh wreaths each year.

In addition to Christmas trees, the working farm also has llamas, sheep, goats, cattle, and Great Pyrenees guard dogs. At Christmas time, the farm also has wagon rides and a Christmas shop.

Visitors can pick their own choose-and-cut trees. Hand saws are available, but farm staff will also gladly help to cut your tree for you.

As a choose and cut Christmas tree farm in NC, Appalachian Christmas Mountain Farm has trees ranging from4-9 feet tall.

Those who work at the farm will accompany you to the field and, once you’ve picked the perfect tree, they’ll cut and trim the tree to your liking.

There is also an attraction where kids can choose their very own tiny tree and a hayride through the tree fields.

Once your tree is cut, it will be baled and put on a trailer to be taken to the loading area, where you can pick it up.

The Red Barn Tree Farm is part of the family owned and operated 40-acre vineyards, Linville Falls Winery. It is a great NC Christmas tree farm to visit if you are looking for a Choose-n-Cut tree for the holiday season.

Start by picking up a measuring pole to help you choose the perfect tree. Once you’ve found it, wave the pole to signal one of the farm’s chainsaw operators to cut it for you. 

There normal Tree Farm Hours are 10am-5pm (special hours Thanksgiving Day). Please note that 5pm is a “hard close” time, meaning that customers are not allowed to be in the tree field past 5pm for the safety of the customer and our crew. 

Along with Christmas Trees, the Red Barn Tree Farm also offers Hayrides for fun or to get to the out of the way spots on the farm.

Fir Heaven’s Sake has very reasonably priced trees at only $9 per foot so customers won’t have to break the bank for a tree.

They plant anywhere from 300 to 500 trees per year too so their supply won’t be running out too soon.

The farm also has a small gift shop on the property where you can shop around after you chop a tree.

Bear Valley Farm sits right along the Great Smoky Mountains and is one of the best North Carolina tree farms.

Here, you’ll hand-pick whatever tree you like and their team will cut it down and load it for you. 

Hospitality and traditions are important to those at Bear Valley and you’ll get to enjoy some cowboy coffee and hot chocolate around a warm fire after tree picking. 

The farm has a small area for their mini donkey’s, where you can pet them and play with them if the weather is good enough for the animals.

Chimney Pond Farm has 80 acres of Fraser Fir Christmas trees, ranging in size from 3 to 12 feet tall.

The farm crew strategically hand-shears the trees to keep them bushy and shapely, adding fertilizer and nutrients to prevent pests and damage.

Trees are only cut after a few frosts have tempered them, and a recent rain has them feeling lush. This helps to ensure the needles stay on longer.

This year is going to be bigger than ever with the chance to meet Santa Claus, dance to live music and enjoy magical entertainment, jump in the bounce house or go for a hayride. And of course, choose and cut your own Christmas tree!

Located in Apex NC, the Jordan Lake Tree Farm is one of a few eastern North Carolina Christmas tree farms and its been around for 30years! It’s an easy day trip from towns like Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill.

This farm has several types of trees to choose from, including Fraser Firs, White Pine, and Concolor Firs brought in from the North Carolina Mountains.

They also grow their own Pine and Cypress varieties. Prices for choose-and-cut trees range from $8-$12 a foot. Please note that the staff cut the tree once you are at the farm to pick it up. Guests are not allowed to have saws or other cutting tools at the farm.
